1. Introduction

Pinion ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website.

2. Information We Collect

We may collect information about you in a variety of ways. The information we may collect on the site includes:

  • Personal Data: Personally identifiable information, such as your name, email address, and telephone number, that you voluntarily give to us when you register with the site or when you choose to participate in various activities related to the site.
  • Mobile Phone Number and SMS Consent Data: If you choose to opt in to receive text messages from Pinion by checking the consent checkbox during registration on the Pinion website or mobile app, we collect your mobile phone number, the date and time of your opt-in, the source of the opt-in (web or mobile app registration form), the IP address from which the opt-in was submitted, and a record of the consent language presented to you. We also collect any subsequent opt-out (STOP) or HELP requests you send via SMS.
  • Derivative Data: Information our servers automatically collect when you access the site, such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, access times, and the pages you have viewed directly before and after accessing the site.
  • Financial Data: Financial information, such as data related to your payment method (e.g., valid credit card number, card brand, expiration date) that we may collect when you purchase, order, return, exchange, or request information about our services from the site.

3. Use of Your Information

Having accurate information about you permits us to provide you with a smooth, efficient, and customized experience. Specifically, we may use information collected about you via the site to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Process your transactions and send you related information

  • Fulfill and manage purchases, orders, payments, and other transactions related to the site
  • Generate a personal profile about you to make future visits more personalized
  • Increase the efficiency and operation of the site
  • Monitor and analyze usage and trends to improve your experience
  • Send you SMS messages related to your account, transactions, and our programs, including new features, scholarship matches, events, and updates, as well as account verification codes and security alerts where applicable, consistent with your opt-in choices and our Terms and Conditions
  • Maintain auditable records of your SMS opt-in consent and any opt-out (STOP) or HELP requests as required by applicable telecommunications regulations and carrier guidelines (including CTIA and TCPA)

4. Disclosure of Your Information

We may share information we have collected about you in certain situations. Your information may be disclosed as follows:

  • By Law or to Protect Rights: If we believe the release of information about you is necessary to respond to legal process, to investigate or remedy potential violations of our policies, or to protect the rights, property, and safety of others, we may share your information as permitted or required by any applicable law, rule, or regulation.
  • Third-Party Service Providers: We may share your information with third parties that perform services for us or on our behalf, including payment processing, data analysis, email delivery, hosting services, customer service, and marketing assistance. This includes our SMS aggregator and messaging provider (Twilio), which we use solely to deliver SMS messages to you on our behalf. These service providers are contractually required to handle your information consistent with this Privacy Policy and applicable law.

For SMS-specific limits on sharing mobile information and SMS opt-in data, including use of messaging subcontractors such as Twilio, see Section 5 (SMS / Text Messaging).

5. SMS / Text Messaging

When you provide your mobile phone number and opt in to receive text messages from Pinion, you consent to receive SMS messages from us related to your account, transactions, and our programs, including new features, scholarship matches, events, and updates.

Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. You can reply HELP for help or STOP at any time to unsubscribe. Once you reply STOP, you will no longer receive SMS messages from us unless you opt in again.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support of our services (e.g., SMS delivery via Twilio) is permitted. All other use case categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

When you opt in at registration, the consent language shown next to the checkbox matches our standard SMS consent disclosure. Enrollment details, supported carriers, and eligibility requirements are described in our Terms and Conditions.

6. Security of Your Information

We use administrative, technical, and physical security measures to help protect your personal information. While we have taken reasonable steps to secure the personal information you provide to us, please be aware that despite our efforts, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and no method of data transmission can be guaranteed against any interception or other type of misuse.
